Priority Areas News
The Big Conversation - bookings now open!
We’re developing a programme which we hope will have a bit of something for everyone. We’re going to reset after these last eighteen months and do what we’re good at: gathering our Priority Areas folk together and listening to what people want.

During our Big Conversation on 24 and 25 November, there’ll be sessions on sharing stories of success and lessons learned and sessions on what the Kirk's new Faith Action Programme will be hoping to achieve in linking the Church’s work with the 'five marks of mission'.

In particular, we’re excited to explore the latest thinking and development around policies to support the introduction of Basic Income or Minimum Income Guarantee to move people permanently out of poverty.

Resources and inspiration for those working with children and youth
  • Do you serve your church in the area of children and youth, either as a volunteer or a paid worker?
  • Maybe you currently have few or no children in your congregation but are looking for a fresh approach?
  • Maybe you’re involved in particular ministries or have a particular area that you’d appreciate some input on in your ministry/work?
The Church of Scotland is here to resource and inspire you in your ministry. Through a range of resources and events, tailored to those serving in children and youth ministry, we seek to enable you to:
  • Explore new resources/ideas/expertise/stories/information/questions
  • Feel equipped to undertake your role(s)
  • Contextualise resources/ideas/thinking to your local situation
  • Develop disciples, grow young leaders, reach more children and young people with the Good News
  • Help shape your local church for the benefit of the children and young people
If you would like to receive information about resources that can help to equip and inspire you in your children and youth ministry then please provide us with some contact information and areas of interest in the short questionnaire linked below. We will then add you to a database specifically for this purpose, and endeavour to tailor information to your needs.

Preaching in Priority Areas - 8 September
In response to our learning needs surveys, we have been developing the Preaching in Priority Areas webinar to explore preaching in the context of Priority Areas ministry.

Sessions will be interactive and explore different approaches to preaching while also giving an opportunity to hear from some of our longest serving Priority Areas ministers about their experiences.

This invitation is open to all of those with an interest in preaching, whether you are a minister, deacon, MDS, elder, or member, and whether you are part of a Priority Area congregation or not.

Tesco Community Grants
Did you know that Tesco Community Grants is always open for applications from charities and community organisations to bid for up to £1,500? Projects are voted on by Tesco customers in stores across the UK, with projects changing every three months.

They are currently looking for applications from charities and community groups who deliver projects that help to tackle food insecurity and poverty in their communities. This might include, for example: breakfast clubs, community growing, cookery classes and food banks. If your project fits the bill or you know of a local group that does, then please visit the Tesco Community Grants website for further details.

Greenspace Scotland's team of friendly Community Enablers can support you to apply or answer any questions.
